Spoon River Animal Clinic

Pet Dental Services

Did you know that your pet can suffer from many of the same dental problems as you? When a pet's teeth aren't cleaned, bacteria build up and lead to the formation of plaque and tartar on the teeth. Our veterinarians can provide professional dental cleanings to keep your pet healthy and pain-free.

Dental Disease

The bacteria in plaque causes gum disease, which can lead to tooth loss and severe mouth pain, even to the point of making eating uncomfortable for your pet. Gum disease also threatens your pet's overall health, because if bacteria from the mouth enters the bloodstream, it can lead to problems with your pet's heart, liver, and kidneys.

Dental Cleaning

Spoon River Animal Clinic - Dental Cleanings

Regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining your pet's oral health. A professional cleaning removes tough plaque and tartar from the tooth's surface for a healthier mouth and fresher breath. We use modern and safe ultrasound to clean each tooth thoroughly - above and below the gum line. A dental technician will polish your pet's teeth to create a smooth surface that is more resistant to plaque buildup. We also use fluoride treatments to help strengthen enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity.

Dental X-Ray

X-ray is an important tool in evaluating your pet's dental health because much of your pet's mouth cannot be seen during a standard dental exam. In fact, two-thirds of your pet's teeth are below the gum line! Dental radiology helps your veterinarian determine if teeth are abnormal, malpositioned, missing, or dead. It is also essential in making an accurate diagnosis of any problems lurking below the gum line, such as gum disease, cysts, tumors, and jaw fractures.

Equine Dental Care

Spoon River Animal Clinic is proud to offer routine dental care and dental restoration for our equine patients! Dental care is very important for horses because they need healthy teeth to chew. We conduct dental exams and perform floating with the PowerFloat system. These services require sedation of the horse and must be done at our facility.
